PASIR Gudang City Council (MBPG) can play an important role in hastening the state’s recovery rate in line with the National Recovery Plan (NRP), says councillor Noor Azleen Ambros (pic).
He said the council had the capacity to cover sectors such as economy and education, as well as public amenities and facilities.
“In the economic sector, MBPG can lend a hand in providing training programmes or workshops for petty traders so that they can expand their reach digitally.
The local councils have played a vital role in helping the country manage the Covid-19 pandemic, he pointed out.
“We can continue our role by helping the economy to spring into action again while instilling confidence in the business community,” he said when contacted.
Noor Azleen also said that MBPG, as part of its corporate social responsibility, could help petty traders register for the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) under the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
As for public amenities, the council can help build rest and recreation (R&R) stops that specifically cater to delivery riders, he added.
In terms of education, he said each community hall could be installed with public WiFi to help schoolchildren continue their home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
“As classes in schools are conducted on rotation, the children will have the option of going to the council’s community hall to study.
“This will also pave the way for MBPG to start planning and mapping out telecommunication towers in the city to provide better internet accessibility in the future,” he added.
