KUALA LUMPUR: The transformation of information technology (IT) infrastructure and processes will accelerate in 2021 even as companies look to recover, helped by the Covid-19 vaccination programme nationwide. Maxis chief enterprise business officer Paul McManus said the group had observed that business leaders have begun to reevaluate their infrastructure and processes against the new norm amid the Covid-19 pandemic. “The year 2020 has revealed that organisations need to be more responsive to business demands and capability to adapt quickly in critical times to survive. “A recent study by Gartner found that almost 70% of boards are accelerating their digital initiatives this year, ” he said at the launch of Maxis Programmable Network (MPN). McManus' views also echoed the The 2021 Gartner Board of Directors Survey, which forecasts that the number of workers who work remotely, at least on a part-time basis, would see a 60% jump compared to pre-Covid-19 pandemic days, by 2023. As such, Maxis has launched the MPN, a converged 5G-ready core network infrastructure that offers real-time Bandwidth on Demand which is available with fixed enterprise broadband services.Maxis head of enterprise products Selvakumar Rajasekaran said the MPN would benefit seasonal business events such as conferences, exhibitions and sporting events as it ensures uninterrupted services. The MPN’s Bandwidth on Demand feature allows businesses to get bandwidth they need instantly and pay only for what they need. “With the MPN, we are essentially making it easier for businesses to balance their costs and performance by having the peace of mind of greater agility and control.” McManus pointed out that the Bandwidth on Demand feature can result in cost savings of up to 30% for businesses. “The MPN is a timely launch as businesses have to respond and adapt quickly to a rapidly evolving digital landscape while ensuring cost efficiency, ” he said. Maxis calls the MPN network the most advanced for businesses as it offers enterprise-grade performance and real-time Bandwidth on Demand. The network has a deep integration with cloud providers that enable businesses to scale their infrastructure with ease throughout their cloud lifecycles. Meanwhile, Maxis head of enterprise products Selvakumar Rajasekaran (pic above) said the MPN would benefit seasonal business events such as conferences, exhibitions and sporting events as it ensures uninterrupted services. “Events and sporting venues can now request for temporary bandwidth at their fingertips, ” he noted. During the movement control order, Selvakumar said the Bandwidth on Demand would support work-from-home arrangements and companies can return to their original bandwidth after the restriction is lifted. As businesses reevaluate their IT infrastructure and processes in the Covid-19 era, Paul said the next five years would look different from now, given the fast pace of digitalisation in organisations. “The next five years will look very different. Technology will play a central role in businesses to a point where the line between IT and business strategy will almost disappear, ” he added.
